Photography is taken as a hoby course as well as a professional job. With a camera in your hand a few basic techniques you can take a beautiful and a photograph which looks really realistic. Ok lets have a look into how a photograph is captured. The pictures that you click with your camera is recorded in its film by capturing light. The light emitted from the object that is exposed to the electronic medium during the exposure of time stores the picture. It is in the camera that the image is formed and the digital card is the storage.
Now looking at the development of photography, initially there were black and white photographic cameras. The pictures captured were monochrome or black and white. For many years the black and white photos dominated because the reel used was low in cost and also the look of the pictures. Colour photography came into existance in the 1950's in India but the first colour photo was is said to be taken in 1860. Kodak produced the colour film to be put in the camera. Poloroid was also found in 1960s which does not need to be developed, it prints pictures instantly. Then came the age of digital photography. As he use of photography increased, it began to be dificult for photographers to have the latest photos printed in the newspapers. They had to carry small photo labs with them to develop the picturs. hence to their rescue came Sony who introduced the mavica which could save the pictures to the disc without the need of a film. kodak was the first to make the digital camera dcs 100 which was very costly.

Lets know the basics of the digital camera
There are three types of cameras: Large format (studio) cameras, medium format (2 1/4 and 35mm) and point-and-shoot (pocket) cameras.
The digital cameras have mega pixels ranging from 1.3 mega pixels and more. Now what is a mega pixel. Pixel is known as the number of dots of colour in a picture. The higher the mega pixel camera the more will be the number of dots and the more sharp will be the picture. A camera of 3-4 mega pixels is enough to get a good quality picture. A good camera must have a good optical than a digital zoom. The cameras also has the optical and the LCD viewfinders with which you can see the image before shooting the picture. Next is the memory cards which range from 128 MB to more. A 128 MB card can store around 250 high quality pictures. The zoom lens to shoot distant images. The AC adaptor in case your battery is over, USB interface to transfer the images. There is also a TV output to view the images on TV.
While shooting a picture there are 2 devices that controls the exposure of the light on the image. The shutter is like the curtain which is placed infront of the film like the curtains in stage shows. The time the shade was opened determines to the extent how much light comes into the room. That is called the shutter speed. The aperture is the hole in the lens which controls the light coming in. Aperture and shutter settings work together. The settings for a good exposure are determined by a light meter. Lets have a look like on a bright sunny day the sun falls on the picture the aperture should be f16. For a cloudy day it should be f8 and at the time of sunrise and sunset is 1/30th. These are the ways to control the light rays falling on the film.
Grains appearing in the film used be a old problem now the cameras come so advanced that this issue is ruled out, but subject to some extreme light situations. Kodak and Fuji make good colour films. The point and shoot cameras have flash which has a non automatic exposure. hence the range is limited and they are effective only below 15-20'. Ok now if you shoot the flash directly on the object, there could be a problem that the original colour of the skin does not get visible, shadows will be formed, the texture of the skin or clothers backs out and above all the red eye effects also comes in. If the flash of the camera is lifted up then the picture comes more clear and the fash goes widespread on the picture.
If you shoot "straight- on, you run the risk of washing out skin tones, eliminating texture, creating harsh shadows, and getting "red-eye".
