Commonwealth Games 2010 India
The 2010 Commonwealth Games are the nineteenth Commonwealth Games, and the ninth to be held under that name. The Games are scheduled to be held in Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October 2010. The games will be the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in Delhi and India generally, which has previously hosted the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games will be held in India and the second time the event has been held in Asia (after 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).
Venues for the 2010 Commonwealth Games
The 17 sports to feature in the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi will be held at six venue clusters and five stand alone venues in Delhi.
- Ceremonies (Opening & Closing), Athletics, Lawn Bowls and Weightlifting at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex
- Cycling, Gymnastics and Wrestling at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex
- Archery (Qualification Rounds) and Table Tennis Yamuna Sports Complex
- Badminton and Squash at Siri Fort Sports Complex;
- Hockey and Archery Finals (India Gate) MDC National Stadium Complex
- Boxing at Talkatora Garden Complex.
The Official mascot
Shera, mascot of the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. His name comes from ' Sher ' meaning Tiger. In Indian mythology, the tiger is associated with Goddess Durga, the embodiment of Shakti (or female power) and the vanquisher of evil. She rides her powerful vehicle – the tiger.
Book Tickets
The launch of sales to general public is scheduled on 04 th June 2010 . People can buy tickets online and at the retail outlet from 04 th June onwards. Ticket holders can avail free transportation on DTC Buses and Metro to witness the sports events.
