This school follows the true guru-shishya parampara. The academy was set up by Savita Devi in August 1977 in memory of her mother Siddheshwari Devi fondly known as the 'thumro queen'. Savita Devi is the only guru of the school and she has already taught over 70 students. The academy promotes Indian classical music like khayal, thumri, dadra, tappa, dhrupad, kajri, bhajan and ghazal. The students are aged between 5 to 50 years and they are now engaged in promoting the Banaras ang style of thumri and dadra. The Thumri was once patronised by the Rajas, Nawabs and the Maharajas. Later it moved to the kothas where it flourished. Its began declining when the ghazals film and pop music came up. Today there are no professional  thumri singers and this brings alive the spirit of Savita Devi.
