Eligibility criteria to nursey admission
Recently the Ashok Ganguly Committee has recommended a common weightage system for nursery admissions to the schools in Delhi. Admission forms will have a common format and parents will be asked to rate themselves. Against the total weightage of 100, points will be given on the following criteria:-
Many leading schools are located in South delhi. Hence children in other parts of the city will face problems as they may not be able to apply to the schools of their choice. The rule before was 10 km vicinity for applying to schools.
The siblings of the existing students will be given a weightage of 20 points.
If the student does not have a sibling studying will be a setback as the child looses a whole 20 points.
Children of school alumni will get 5 points per parent.
Any child with special needs who can be included in the mainstream under inclusive education will be awarded 5 points. Schools wil have to advertise facilities for such children during admission process.
Parent's educational qualification
Post graduation or professional qualification will fetch 10 points each for the mother and father. The points decrease for lower qualifications.
The under-privileged backgrounds are at loss as their parents may not be highly qualified. Also the specifications are not clear about qualifications like a post-graduate diploma.
Five points will be awarded to girls seeking admissions.
Schools can allocate 20 points as per their requirement to different categories. But they have to advertise the parameters and points allocated. Schools can also follow the Ganguly commitee report and allocate 5 points to single parents, on the basis of the parents profession, to children belonging to disadvantaged groups and to those of transferable government employees, defence and paramiltary forces.
